The suite on the main floor (piano nobile), at the very core of Palazzo Luce is also the most ancient of its parts and takes its name from Maria dEnghien, countess of Lecce and Queen of Naples who also lived in these very rooms. Like a 14th-century chest holding family heirloom, the spaces reveal treasurable art and design pieces: the original furnishings by Gio Ponti, the brgeres seating by Pier Giulio Magistretti, the large lamp by Hans-Agne Jackobsson, walls vested in hand-painted striped fabric, the rare compressed paper work by Ettore Spalletti from 1976 and not least the enigmatic ceiling fresco above the bed, created by artist David Tremlett. A spiral that draws the flow of time – an encounter between past and future. A characteristic Baroque balcony facing the external onto Via del Palazzo dei Conti di Lecce, on the main elevation of the Palazzo Luce. The bathroom in typical Lecce earthenware, with original Gio Ponti furnishings, inspired by the designer in its geometric decoration, in powder blue and bright red, with precious golden details. A large brass screen room divider designed by Storage Associati signals the entrance to this main-floor suite dedicated to the contemporary traveler who can appreciate its functional elegance. A quasi-sculptural element, the screen divider affords further intimacy to an already private space while contemporaneously, serving a functional purpose as a headboard. The furnishings, created and realised expressly for Palazzo Luce, emphasise the idea that design can be rigorous in form and non-conformist in its palette choice of color while equally, attentive to detail. The brass finishes contrast amicably with the Palaces original barbed-wire terracotta flooring. On the walls the surreal visions of Brigitte Niedermair’s lighting invite yet another dimension to the visual reality of the suite. The spacious bathroom with bathtub done in typical earthenware evoke a Mediterranean earthiness of simple elegance.

Impressions of Art Deco and a striking vertical stripe pattern together, are the stand-out characteristics of the main-floor suite (piano nobile) designed by Carlo de Carli and furnished entirely with an original set of 1930s vintage FontanaArte lamps. The decorative graphic tenants; the white and forest green, teal and blue-green details, the refined juxtaposition of materials from walnut wood to textured mirrored surfaces, bring a welcoming warmth to a contemporary environment. The bathroom with shower in marble recalls the elegance indicative of the period – echoed overall, in the continuity of the design.
